Run Chloe Run

Mama note:

Chloe is taking a break today. For the past 2 days, i haven't seen her exploring her place or running on the wheel. She kept on resting in her hideout. I was getting worried, afraid that she had fallen ill. Although she ran on her wheel after i placed her there, she just rested there and move to no where. Thereafter, i started to think on why isn't she running or moving. Yesterday was cold and thus inactive. But today's weather is really warm. Don't she feel stuffy? She had sufficient food and water. She liked her wheel very much on the 1st day. Did she forget where the wheel is and what it does? She just makes me worry. :(

Q: Why is my hamster not running his wheel?
A: i) Hamsters are nocturnal animals, meaning that they are active at night. Perhaps while you are awake, they are sleepy

Potty Training

It was a day where black ominous clouds blanketed the dark gray sky. Heavy downfall soon followed after. Brr... It was such a cold day. Like what my humans have said, 'Rainy days are best for sleeping.' I snuggled in my cosy little hideout and had much fun in Lalaland. Snooze...

Mama's note:

Came home late today. For the rest of the night that i was home, i didn't get to see her being active. She was simply cuddling in her dark little corner. She was so smart as she has put in so much bedding and even covered her hideout opening with bedding. Guess she really loved the hideout very much. Food luring won't work on her. :( I miss carrying her.

The only time she came out of her hideout was when she wanted to pee. My tricked actually work. Initially she wasn't peeing in the sand bath, but now she does. When she pees, her hind legs stiffens and back arches.

Fed her hamster mix and fresh brocolli.

Q: How to toilet-train / litter train / potty train hamster?
A: Chloe was new to the cage. The very next day, i went to find her peeing spot, and placed those soiled bedding in the sand. Subsequently, she pees at the sand. :) Reason: hamster also pee at the same place.

My Name: Chloe

I was finally name Chloe. To my humans, I groomed myself a little too much and thought that i was really vain. Initially they called me 'hel bu' (vain girl), then they changed it to 'chio bu' (pretty girl).  Mama thought that the name was quite uncouth and revised it to Cleo. Cleo as in the magazine published by SPH. But mama is still unsatisfied. She finds that name a little hard to pronouce. And finally, the name evolves to Chloe. I guess that's a nice name. :) Grandma calls me xiao bai which literally small and white.

Well, the humans can't blame me for grooming myself. I am a happy hammie
Grooming expresses the hamsters well being and contentment. Prolonged grooming or continuous and liberal face, and body washing, is made when the hamster is put in unfamiliar areas. - Hammyworld

Mama also gave me a slice of apple today. A really small one. I simply loved it, so much that when Mama removed the yellow apple, i refused to let it go. Yum Yum. Hope there's more fruits next time

Mama's note:
Went to Serangoon North today. Shopped for quite a few things
Bought:

The uncles seems to be giving great discount. Either or the price of those items are marked up quite high.
Have given her some new beddings. She seems to like it. Perhaps it is white and resembles her favourite tissue.
Food given: Food Mix and a small thin slice of apple

Chew my way through

Today was just a lazy weekend. I slept through the day in the tunnel. Mama tried to wake me up but i snubbed her and showed my backy :p Sleep is definitely important for a hamster like me who loves to run marathon at night. I love my wheelie and have been working out on it. Chewing is the next favourit past time. Tissue, tunnels, carrots and sticks are just some of my gnawing toys.
_______

Mama's note:
She hasn't been drinking water, but she has peed and I guess that should be fine.
Given her hamster mix and fresh cauliflower.
I've put the apple sticks into the food mix instead. Thereafter, i removed the sticks and gave some to her. She gladly pulled the stick back into and she started to bite them into pieces.
Tissue may not be a good idea. Saw her 'vomiting out' the seeds and stuffed the tissue instead. Tissue removed.

Q1: Are apple sticks safe for hamster?
Ans:  Yup they are. You may try the alex brand apple sticks for chinchillas. That’s what I gave her. Jolly gnawing stone may be a good choice too. They are also safe for hamsters to chew. However it depends to a large extent if the hamster is willing to chew on those. If she doesn't, there are always the hard pellets in the food mix that she can trim her teeth on. More info
Apple Sticks
Q2: How can I make my hamster chew on her apple sticks?
I've left them in the food mix so that they smell like food and perhaps that's the reason she is receptive towards the sticks

New beginning

On the eventful day of 24th Aug, I became part of a new family. With my 1st mama, I was naughty and bullied the younger one. In order for both of us to be happy, my environment was changed. I was bored and like to space out. Below are pictures of me going into deep thought

Hanging in mid air

I guess I'm a good gymnast
Mama then bought back some new stuff for me to play. She got me a wheel. A really big one. I enjoy running on it :) Mama also gave me some apple sticks, but i guess those sticks aren't friends of mine
_________

Mama's note:
Fed her some hamster mix, fresh carrots and french beans. Carrot was her favourite.

My 1st fresh food

Weigh 85g, length 12.5cm approx. Female Syrian hamster
According to the hamster growth chart (or here), she is 5 weeks old.

A: The Syrian hamster was introduced to the scientific community around 1930. A mother hamster and her pups (babies) were found in the Syrian desert by a zoologist and brought back to Hebrew University in Jerusalem. They were bred and, due to their remarkable ability to have a litter of pups every month, and because they are so friendly and easy to handle, were used in labs all over the world as guinea pigs, er, I mean "test subjects". So you see, if an animal is friendly scientists have an easier time planting electrodes in it's brain. And if it has lots of babies scientists can make more "mistakes" as there is always a fresh batch on the way. Syrian hamsters were first brought to America in 1932 for laboratory research. At some point a scientist thought "Hey these guys are kind of cute before we dissect them" and the first very lucky hamster got to leave the laboratory in one piece. I smell a Disney movie. - Hamsterific
